Description
The Yamaha NP-15 Piaggero represents a distinct philosophy in Yamaha’s keyboard lineup: stripping away the complicated rhythms and hundreds of voices of standard arrangers to focus strictly on piano performance in an ultra-lightweight chassis. As a 61-key, piano-style keyboard, it occupies a unique space between synths and digital pianos.
Its primary real-world application is for musicians who need a highly portable, battery-operable instrument with a traditional piano layout for choir rehearsals, quick vocal warm-ups backstage, or casual living room playing where a heavy 88-key instrument is impractical.
Who Is This For?:
This instrument is precisely targeted at vocalists, choir directors, and traveling musicians who require a lightweight, immediate piano sound for pitching and practice. It is also excellent for older adults or young children who find the heavy, graded hammer action of traditional digital pianos too fatiguing for their fingers.
Key Features:
Box-Type Piano Keys
Unlike the thin, diving-board style keys found on many synthesizers and portable arrangers, the NP-15 features box-type keys that mimic the physical shape and aesthetic of an acoustic piano. While the action is unweighted (spring-loaded) to keep the unit light, this design provides a familiar visual and physical topography for piano players.
AWM Stereo Sampled Piano Tone
The core sound engine is built around Yamaha’s AWM Stereo Sampling, specifically featuring the rich tone of a Yamaha CFIIIS full concert grand piano. This ensures that despite the instrument’s small internal 2.5W speakers, the acoustic piano patch remains deeply resonant, clear, and professional enough for accompanying vocalists.
Ultra-Portable Form Factor
Weighing exactly 5.2 kg and capable of running on six AA batteries, the NP-15 is built for complete mobility. A musician can easily carry this under one arm to a rehearsal space, a park, or a gig, making it a highly reliable utility keyboard for active, gigging professionals who need instant access to a piano tone.
